No prior experience required.

ROLE SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Instructor is tasked with delivering swim lessons in a secure, professional, and nurturing environment, adhering to the designated curriculum to ensure participants have a positive experience and advance their skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develops and implements daily lesson plans that align with established class standards.
  2. Maintains accurate records of individual student progress and determines suitable class placements.
  3. Engages in teaching during every session, ensuring constant supervision of the class.
  4. Implements specific safety protocols to mitigate risks for participants.
  5. Completes and submits progress and mid-session reports.
  6. Presents materials that are both challenging and suitable for each participant's skill level.
  7. Prepares and organizes necessary equipment for classes and ensures proper storage post-session.
  8. Records daily attendance and communicates with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress as needed.
  9. Arranges for a qualified substitute when unable to teach and informs the Aquatics Director in advance when possible.
  10. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be at least 16 years old (15 years old may be considered based on availability).
  2. Preferred: Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
  3. Ability to inspire and motivate individuals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Capability to teach in the water for extended periods.
  2. Remain vigilant to potential hazards while sitting, standing, swimming, or walking for varying durations.
  3. Able to assist participants of any age or size in distress during lessons by providing flotation devices or aiding them to safety.
