Role Summary

The Child Welfare Services Specialist is responsible for conducting initial evaluations to guarantee the safety and welfare of children in accordance with applicable federal, state, and administrative regulations. This includes assessing reports of suspected maltreatment and developing comprehensive family assessments, treatment strategies, and safety plans to provide necessary services to families.


Key Responsibilities

The following tasks are essential for this role:

  • Intake and Case Management (70%): Respond to allegations of maltreatment following state safety protocols, which may involve immediate action or a response within a specified timeframe. Collaborate with law enforcement for joint investigations and conduct thorough interviews with family members. Perform home and school visits, and gather information from various sources to create a detailed assessment of the situation.
  • Family Engagement: Build positive relationships with families to foster cooperation and assess their needs, matching them with appropriate services in areas such as mental health, housing, and parenting skills.
  • Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all communications and interactions, utilizing a structured format for record-keeping. Collect and upload necessary documents from external agencies.
  • Emergency Response (10%): Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies, responding to urgent situations involving child safety and welfare.
  • Court Involvement (10%): Prepare and submit reports for court proceedings, attend hearings, and provide necessary testimony while adhering to legal standards.
  • Additional Duties (10%): Engage in professional development, participate in committees, and assist with various administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in social work or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: Minimum of two years in Child Protection Services or related fields working with children and families.
