Position Overview

The Clinical Support Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing patient care by assisting healthcare professionals during medical evaluations. This position involves preparing laboratory samples, conducting basic tests on-site, managing contaminated materials, and ensuring the sterilization of medical tools. The specialist is also responsible for administering medications as prescribed, processing prescription refills, and performing electrocardiograms, as well as other essential tasks in a dynamic primary care environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine clinical procedures efficiently.
  • Facilitate patient intake, document immunizations, and manage orders within the electronic health record system.
  • Assist in visual and auditory screenings and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Support minor medical procedures as needed.
  • Prepare necessary forms related to patient services.
  • Ensure examination rooms are ready for healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate referrals with administrative staff.
  • Handle prior authorizations for medications.
  • Administer and prepare vaccines for patients.
  • Process prescription refills in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and manage sterilization supplies.
  • Educate patients on medication usage and dietary guidelines, addressing any inquiries.
  • Document patient examinations, treatments, and test outcomes accurately.
  • Adhere to the Scope of Practice for Certified Medical Assisting as per regulatory standards.
  • Comply with all relevant state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and telephone skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, writing, and verbal abilities.
  • Capability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and perform under pressure.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a back-office clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environment.
  • Understanding of the diverse cultural and spiritual practices within various communities.
  • Bilingual capabilities.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems, particularly NextGen.
  • Current certification from a recognized Medical Assistant Certifying Board.
