Senior Avionics Cybersecurity Engineer

Are you ready to tackle complex challenges that significantly enhance aviation safety? We are in search of a seasoned Avionics Security Engineer who is dedicated to advancing the cybersecurity of airborne communication systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity and security of commercial aviation technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and enforce security measures tailored to avionics systems.
- Guarantee adherence to industry regulations and RTCA standards, focusing on airworthiness security.
- Collaborate with certification bodies, including the FAA, to ensure compliance.
- Prepare essential documentation for certification, including compliance assessments and safety evaluations.
- Formulate and manage incident response strategies for security breaches in avionics.
- Educate engineering teams on security best practices, fostering a culture of security awareness.
- Engage with industry committees and regulatory organizations to stay abreast of security developments.
- Participate in industry conferences and workshops to exchange knowledge and insights.
- Lead the creation of security architectures, requirements, and testing protocols.
- Develop threat models to identify potential vulnerabilities in embedded systems and cloud solutions.
- Establish infrastructure for penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.
- Implement customized security frameworks across various projects.
- Research, evaluate, and deploy innovative security technologies.
- Contribute to the technical design and cost estimation for new product proposals.
- Provide technical insights during customer design review sessions.
- Assist in scheduling and estimating work for system security tasks.
Supervisory Duties:
Oversee a team of security engineers, ensuring effective coordination of responsibilities based on individual skills and availability. Responsibilities include:
- Monitor employee performance and program participation.
- Review travel reports and summaries.
- Ensure compliance with training requirements for security engineering.
- Mentor engineers and support their professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations based on feedback from program managers.
- Facilitate employee goal-setting to enhance their skills.
- Encourage and support career advancement opportunities.
- Address employee concerns and resolve issues effectively.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field) with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a minimum of 13 years of cybersecurity experience in lieu of a degree.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in industry-standard security tools, including vulnerability scanners, intrusion detection systems, and security monitoring solutions.
Certifications:
Preferred certifications include CISSP, CCSP, and relevant Linux certifications, though not mandatory.
Additional Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of systems architecture in relation to cybersecurity.
- Experience in risk analysis, security standards development, and auditing.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, Linux, and network security protocols.
- Understanding of cloud security implementations and virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of NIST and ISO27001 standards, with a preference for aviation security standards.
- Extensive experience in conducting security analyses for aircraft systems.
Travel Requirements:
This position may involve limited domestic and international travel.
