Responsibilities

The Senior Underwriter role within Baker Tilly Capital, LLC's Development Community Advisory - Capital Formation (DCA) team presents an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic team within our FINRA Broker-Dealer, acting as a trusted business advisor delivering industry-focused financial services to energy and infrastructure clients.

Baker Tilly Capital is a boutique investment bank specializing in tax credits, mergers and acquisitions, capital sourcing, project finance, and corporate advisory services. We have successfully financed over 1,000 tax credit transactions, amounting to over $20 billion in tax credits, including programs such as 45Q, New Markets Tax Credit, Affordable Housing, Historic Tax Credits, and Opportunity Zones. Our extensive experience and investor base are now being leveraged in the clean energy sector.

The Energy Team, currently comprising 45 professionals, is focused on the implications of the Inflation Reduction Act. As organizations transition from traditional energy sources to clean energy and decarbonization, you will play a crucial role in developing and financing essential energy infrastructure projects.

You will collaborate closely with practice area leadership to assist clients in financing the energy infrastructure of the future while directly contributing to the growth and success of Baker Tilly.

What You Will Do
  • Engage deeply in the energy sector, gaining insights into the companies, technologies, and systems that deliver energy resources.
  • Develop customized financial models tailored to specific deal structures, incorporating various technologies, tax credit programs, government incentives, and alternative financing options.
  • Assist in securing financing and equity sources for transactions, negotiating financing agreements with these sources.
  • Support acquisition, preservation, disposition, and recapitalization strategies for owners of energy asset portfolios.
  • Contribute to various transaction aspects involving federal tax, including preparing relevant application materials and structuring credit monetization to maximize client value.
  • Provide assistance in developing presentations, responding to requests for proposals, pitch books, and creating proposals for the team.
  • Conduct research on industry topics and technical issues, compile data, and present findings.
  • Support energy and infrastructure-focused analysis for thought leadership initiatives.
Qualifications

Successful candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related energy field is required; an MBA is a plus.
  • Experience in modeling partnership allocations (preferably within renewable energy) and/or underwriting bank debt, energy project finance, and funding sources such as the Production Tax Credit and Investment Tax Credit is essential.
  • Understanding of structured finance concepts, distributed energy project financials, and operating performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
  • A sense of urgency and commitment to timely project completion.
  • Attention to detail coupled with a commitment to quality and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to provide exceptional client service and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning to stay updated on the energy industry and applicable finance strategies.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed and travel, including overnight stays, as necessary.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Additional Information

For California, Colorado, New York, and Washington: The compensation range for this role is $86,660 to $187,790. Actual compensation is influenced by various factors, including skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
