Senior Process & Manufacturing Engineering Specialist

Position Overview

The Senior Process and Manufacturing Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in securing machinery quotations, executing productivity-enhancing initiatives, addressing production challenges, and spearheading continuous improvement efforts. This position also entails project oversight, collaboration on program objectives, and adherence to compliance standards. The individual will mentor and train team members while developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for new production lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the procurement of machinery or equipment necessary for operational processes.
  • Identify and execute kaizen initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide analytical support to the production team to resolve issues, including those beyond the engineering scope.
  • Conduct hands-on root cause analysis for production, engineering, equipment, and maintenance challenges.
  • Manage projects and process enhancements, including implementation and analysis.
  • Develop Process Control Specifications and Flow Charts.
  • Support Equipment Runoff at Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
  • Collaborate with the Operations Team on program deliverables.
  • Review PFMEAs, conduct simulation reviews, and develop control plans for product launches.
  • Assist in the installation, debugging, and continuous improvement of plant equipment.
  • Actively engage in meetings with plants to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Provide troubleshooting support across all sites, offering solutions for process concerns and improvements.
  • Oversee automation troubleshooting, new equipment installations, and modifications.
  • Evaluate process equipment for implementation.
  • Ensure compliance of equipment and systems with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Establish an equipment installation board and conduct regular reviews with OEMs and contractors.
  • Lead trial runs across all sites.
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members.
  • Develop and oversee the creation of SOPs and SWIs.
  • Lead the creation of Value Stream Maps (VSM) for production lines across all sites.
  • Manage PFMEA for new production lines.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with design standards in North America (e.g., CSA, NEC).
  • Experience in troubleshooting robotics and control systems, including Control Logix PLCs and plant application controls.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Proven experience in technical project management.
  • Strong logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Able to manage multiple issues effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient analytical skills with the capability to resolve complex challenges.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external machine builders and system integrators for detailed design and implementation of machine systems.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, Controls Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in automation within the solar sector.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control applications is preferred.
  • Understanding of safety systems design.

Compensation:

$110,000 - $130,000 annually
