Role Overview:
This position is integral to the Blue Origin Engines division, where we focus on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems and engines. Our family of engines is designed for multiple applications, powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of valve components and assemblies, overseeing their development from concept through qualification.
- Mentor and guide early-career engineers, imparting knowledge on development methodologies and techniques for fluid control systems.
- Collaborate with program leaders, systems engineers, and testing teams to select optimal architectures and solutions for rocket engines.
- Conduct rigorous testing of components, ensuring compliance with design requirements and goals.
- Define and refine best practices for engine valves and mechanisms to enhance design efficiency.
- Engage with vendors to establish requirements and manage supplier developments for various valve types.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, chemical, or physics preferred).
- Over 8 years of professional engineering experience with valves, fluid control systems, and mechanisms, including experience with rocket or jet engines.
- Strong foundational knowledge in propulsion, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
- Proficient in hardware design processes and fabrication techniques related to valves.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Ability to analyze and process data effectively.
- Proven ability to build trust and maintain positive professional relationships, contributing to an inclusive culture.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted into the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience in designing products for cryogenic fluids and high-pressure systems.
- Familiarity with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, and Windchill 10.
Compensation: The compensation range for on-site applicants in Washington is $136,467-$191,053. Other site ranges may vary.
