Job Summary

Okland Construction, a leading general contracting and construction management company, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant to join our team. As a critical member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Job Cost Accountant with all job cost, pay request, payroll coding verification, accounts payable invoices, equipment rentals, and subcontract items relating to a specifically assigned job(s).

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Coding/Reporting
    • Establish and maintain accurate job cost codes and estimates on our company system, collaborating with the estimator, project manager, and superintendent.
    • Schedule regular meetings with the estimator, principal-in-charge, project manager, and CFO to review cost setup and critical items.
    • Monitor and track profitability of projects, identifying potential issues that could impact profitability.
  • Job Cost
    • Ensure accurate and timely job cost reports are tied to original contracts, pay requests, and sub-status reports.
    • Prepare and submit monthly cash and income statement reports with exposure logs.
    • Provide weekly field worksheets and cost reports to superintendents and project managers.
    • Verify accurate accounting of interest on retention and allocation to subcontractors.
  • Payment
    • Review subcontract requirements for compliance, including contractor's license, insurance, and executed subcontract supplements.
    • Process and charge self-perform fees to projects on a monthly basis.
    • Establish and prepare accurate monthly pay requests to owners, determining proper billing and retainage.
  • Data Entry/Filing
    • Track and maintain accurate filing and handling of required documents, including signed subcontracts and job cost setup information.
    • Ensure confidentiality and safeguard job cost records through proper filing and locking.
    • Enter weekly field reports, percent complete, quantities, and projected costs into our system.
  • Other
    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity and enhance company morale.
    • Provide input to staff members and employees to improve procedures and productivity.
    • Contribute to the development of the job cost system, including requests for better reports.
Additional Responsibilities
  • A/P Invoices
    • Verify and match vendor invoices to proper documentation, including purchase orders and delivery tickets.
    • Process all A/P invoices, ensuring proper approval and cost coding.
  • Subcontract Invoices
    • Receive, obtain approval, and process all subcontractor invoices and pay applications.
    • Ensure proper approval and cost coding, and make payments after receiving payment from the owner.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and/or 3-5 years progressive cost and general accounting experience in a commercial construction environment.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts, perform cost analyses, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people, including employees, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions and contract documents.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and meet deadlines.
