Position Overview

About Mesabi Metallics Company LLC

Mesabi Metallics is at the forefront of establishing a state-of-the-art, fully integrated mining-to-steel facility. This ambitious project encompasses a taconite mining and pelletization operation with a capacity of 7 million tons annually, alongside a Direct Reduction Iron Plant capable of producing 2.5 million metric tons per year, and a Green Steel initiative with a production capacity of 2.0 million metric tons per annum. This pioneering venture, located at a historic mining site, represents a significant advancement in sustainable steel production in North America. Complementing these efforts is a dedicated Hydrogen production facility, which is set to generate over 200,000 metric tons annually for internal consumption, underscoring our commitment to sustainability. With over $4.5 billion invested in the Pelletizing facility, which is currently more than 50% complete, Mesabi Metallics has already committed over $1.5 billion and logged over 3 million man-hours in construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Chief Green Officer, the Civil Engineering Manager will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Supervise the design, logistics, and execution of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Lead and mentor a team of civil engineers and construction technicians, both senior and junior levels.
  • Oversee the maintenance operations of the tailings basin.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, collaborating closely with the Safety Manager.
  • Manage the upkeep and functionality of internal roads, utilities, stormwater systems, and associated infrastructure.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in both technical and managerial roles within civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to lead teams effectively to meet organizational goals.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota is preferred.

Work Environment

  • The role will be conducted in an active industrial setting, requiring adaptability to various seasonal conditions.
