Position Summary:

The Production Manager plays a vital role in the production office, collaborating closely with the AVP, Performance Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing daily stage and performance operations, which include managing stage schedules, maintaining stage-related equipment and facilities, and handling performance expense management and reporting. The Production Manager also assists in supervising daily stage labor and contracted personnel to meet the production needs of various events. Key responsibilities encompass managing productions for pop, rock, comedy, community engagement, arts education, and both nonprofit and for-profit live events and broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advance and oversee the presentation of various performances, ensuring effective communication with clients regarding technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with the AVP to develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing production quality standards.
  • Plan and recommend resource allocation for assigned events, including equipment, dressing rooms, and catering, while liaising with artists and their representatives regarding technical needs.
  • Manage approved plans for resource allocation and maintain communication with artists about their performance requirements.
  • Assist in scheduling and supervising all stage labor related to performances.
  • Facilitate the hiring and scheduling of casual production staff, including Temporary Production Managers and Stage Managers, as needed.
  • Create and manage schedules for load-ins, load-outs, rehearsals, performances, and maintenance.
  • Recommend budgets for productions and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Oversee events at external venues as assigned.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of all theatrical systems, including rigging, electric, sound, and machinery.
  • Develop and implement plans to enhance production operations quality under the guidance of the AVP.
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements for theatrical equipment and theater interiors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in touring and managing presentations in various performance genres.
  • Preferred college degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience managing stagehands in a collective bargaining environment, ideally in a multi-theater setting.
  • Experience in interpreting production needs for artists and other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with managing broadcast events in a theatrical context is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of stage-related activities, including carpentry, rigging, electrics, sound, props, costumes, and theater design.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, representing NJPAC effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate with artists' managers and production teams across diverse art forms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with a strong emphasis on Google Sheets and Docs.
  • Familiarity with CAD and Lightwright is preferred; working knowledge of Vectorworks is required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to lead a team of production staff.
