Position Overview

General Responsibilities:

  • This role reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
  • The supervisor will facilitate the creation of daily work plans and schedules, reporting on maintenance productivity and performance as required.
  • Provide daily updates and guidance to operations supervisors and technicians regarding work plan priorities and challenges.
  • Act as the primary contact for operations concerning daily, weekly, and monthly work planning and backlog management.
  • Fill in for the maintenance manager as necessary and collaborate closely to ensure alignment with the overall maintenance strategy and cost management.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance program, reporting on its effectiveness.
  • Identify and address safety, environmental, and performance issues while demonstrating strong leadership and motivational skills to foster growth and improvement within the maintenance team.
  • Be available for on-call duties, including weekends and nights, to support plant operations and equipment conditions.
Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
  • Complete annual safety and environmental training as mandated by Covanta.
  • Engage in the Structured Safety Process Program.
  • Conduct safety audits for routine and major maintenance activities.
  • Assist in investigations of incidents and accidents.
Qualifications:

Technical Expertise

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial power plant operations or related industrial maintenance roles, including expertise in electrical generation and distribution systems, control systems for industrial process equipment, and data acquisition systems.

A strong background in project management, job planning, execution, and cost estimation is preferred. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. The candidate must be adept at managing conflicting priorities among maintenance personnel and fostering positive relationships with employees and contractors.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively under pressure are crucial. Familiarity with maintenance budgeting and inventory management is necessary, along with basic computer skills for report writing and data management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in various plant locations under extreme temperatures and conditions.
• Capability to wear a full-face respirator and perform physical tasks while using it, including climbing ladders and working at heights.
• Willingness to engage in physical activities such as walking, kneeling, and climbing to access equipment.
• Potentially assist in lifting and repairing equipment.
• May need to enter boilers for inspections and assessments.

Interpersonal Skills

• Proven ability to maintain a positive demeanor when interacting with employees, contractors, and other departments.
• Basic computer skills for report writing, spreadsheet creation, and email communication are required.
• Strong leadership qualities to motivate and guide others in challenging situations.
• Willingness to evaluate current maintenance practices and propose improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
