Position Overview:
As a Cashier at Hunger Mountain Cooperative, Inc., you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate transactions while providing a friendly and efficient shopping experience for our valued customers.

Work Schedule:
Monday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings, totaling 17.5 hours per week, with eligibility for benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Engagement:
  • Provide courteous and respectful service to all customers.
  • Deliver efficient and informative assistance in line with our customer service standards.
  • Initiate transactions with a warm greeting and maintain eye contact.
  • Assist with bagging groceries when necessary.
  • Conclude each transaction with a friendly farewell, ensuring a positive final interaction.
  • Be knowledgeable about co-op policies to address customer inquiries.
  • Direct unresolved issues to appropriate supervisory staff.

Cash Handling:
  • Follow established procedures for opening and closing cash registers.
  • Process customer purchases swiftly while ensuring accuracy in transactions.
  • Monitor entries for correctness throughout the checkout process.
  • Distribute membership information to interested shoppers.
  • Handle equity payments and process returns in accordance with store policy.
  • Support curbside program initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and reporting concerns.
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures.

Security and Financial Accountability:
  • Ensure the security and accuracy of all financial transactions during your shift.
  • Safeguard keys and follow security measures for cash handling.
  • Adhere to protocols for managing cash, deposits, and emergency situations.

Qualifications:
  • Genuine interest in working with people.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality record.
  • Commitment to following safety policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in providing excellent service to customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to be physically present at the co-op to fulfill job responsibilities.

Compensation:
$16.20 to $20.25 per hour, based on prior experience.
