POSITION SUMMARY:

The Family Specialist operates both independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The San Bernardino Wrap program is a community-focused initiative designed to support children with emotional challenges, ensuring they remain in their communities at the lowest necessary level of care. The program's primary objective is to minimize the risk of out-of-home placements and recidivism by uniting individuals, agencies, and the community to collaboratively meet the needs of children and their families. Our services are aimed at addressing the mental health requirements of children and their families, facilitating safe and appropriate care, and enhancing coordination among child-serving agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a range of supportive and case management services to children in home, school, and community settings, including mentoring and behavioral coaching.
  • Recognize and encourage positive behaviors and skills demonstrated by the youth.
  • Maintain cultural sensitivity and operate from a family-centered, strength-based approach.
  • Assist youth in developing essential interpersonal skills for effective interaction with peers and adults.
  • Facilitate transportation for youth to various activities, including academic and recreational events.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in compliance with program and contractual standards.
  • Collaborate with the client's multidisciplinary team, including educational institutions and community agencies, to implement treatment plans.
  • Enhance knowledge of community resources available for children and families.
  • Participate in committees, lead training sessions, and represent the program at community events as necessary.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated crisis management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and remain organized.
  • Capability to build and maintain rapport with children, youth, and families.
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with behavioral modification techniques and the child welfare system.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. AA or Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field, along with relevant experience in mental health or social services, or at least two years of experience working with youth exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  2. Bilingual Spanish is highly preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
  2. Completion of CPR/First Aid certification within the initial thirty days of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to drive safely in various traffic conditions and over long distances as required.
  • Capability to visually and audibly assess environmental threats and risks to clients.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of 10-20 pounds.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk during family visits.
  • Frequent use of a computer in office settings.
