This role is essential in ensuring that all departments have the necessary resources to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
The Purchasing and Inventory Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the procurement of goods and services, ensuring that cost-effectiveness is prioritized. This position requires maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to guarantee timely deliveries and high-quality products. Additionally, the specialist will oversee inventory management to prevent shortages or excesses, ensuring that all assets are accurately recorded, including their location, condition, and value.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist departments in acquiring necessary goods and services while emphasizing cost efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to established contracts and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Manage supplier relationships to secure timely and quality deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory levels and replenish supplies as needed to avoid disruptions.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all college assets, including their status and valuation.
  • Conduct annual physical inventories to resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide training on procurement procedures and systems.
  • Execute additional tasks as directed by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in purchasing or supply chain management.
  • Familiarity with inventory and asset management practices.
  • Knowledge of procurement card usage and related regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with Virginia State procurement regulations and systems such as eVA or PeopleSoft.
