Position Overview

The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in engaging with families and children at LULAC Head Start, Inc. This position entails conducting home visits and offering assistance to families by connecting them with necessary resources and referrals. The specialist is responsible for addressing crises, ensuring the confidentiality of individual case records, and acting as a bridge between families and community services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment, and attendance processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy and upkeep of child files, enrollment applications, and related documentation.
  • Assist in fulfilling child health requirements and other mandated screenings and assessments.
Qualifications

Essential Education and Experience:

  • Understanding of home-based services.
  • Familiarity with local resources.
  • Knowledge of fundamental child development principles.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • A combination of education and experience that meets the requirements.
Additional Skills and Requirements
  • Ability to effectively engage with both children and adults.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate records while ensuring confidentiality and discretion.
  • Capability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Willingness to travel for workshops or training sessions.
  • Knowledge of the Head Start program is essential.
  • Exemplary customer service skills, high ethical standards, and a multicultural perspective.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Completion of a health screening and TB test prior to employment and biennially thereafter.
  • Full vaccination for COVID-19 is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check (Fingerprint Clearance).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and proof of motor vehicle insurance coverage.
