Position Overview:

The Senior Risk Management Officer will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing a robust risk management framework. This position demands a proactive individual with substantial experience in risk management within a highly regulated sector. The incumbent will oversee the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) initiatives for the organization, ensuring the effective implementation of risk management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, direct, and execute ERM strategies and operations to ensure the integration of the ERM framework, including associated processes, risk appetite statements, tolerances, and metrics, throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate ongoing risk management discussions and assessments across various functions to support the identification, ownership, mitigation, and acceptance of risks.
  • Engage in the Model Risk Management program from a second line of defense perspective, ensuring first line responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Collaborate with second and third line of defense functions, such as Third Party Risk Management, Compliance, Information Security, and Internal Audit, to advance enterprise risk initiatives.
  • Manage the issues management framework, including the monitoring and analysis of risks and issues within the organization and its business units; prepare and present risk reports and analyses to senior management and the ERM Committee, highlighting key themes, root causes, and emerging risks.
  • Maintain ERM processes and procedures to ensure timely remediation of risk management issues, internal mandates, and regulatory guidance.
  • Promote risk assessments, remediation efforts, and risk awareness throughout the organization.
  • Evaluate control effectiveness and provide independent risk oversight, ensuring accurate documentation of issues in line with program requirements and defined risk classifications.
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to assess their potential impact on the organization's risk profile and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Foster effective communication across all organizational levels, respond to issue owners and managers, and deliver relevant training throughout the organization.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management frameworks, assessment methodologies, processes, risk appetite statements, and key risk indicators, with the ability to apply both quantitative and qualitative techniques for risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly and concisely at various organizational levels, while promoting open dialogue and active listening with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously and responsibly with minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing meetings with cross-functional teams, effectively communicating and driving tasks to completion.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively to diverse audiences.

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in risk management, preferably within the financial services sector, and a solid understanding of banking products, processes, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in enterprise risk management, internal controls, and familiarity with regulatory guidelines.
