Role Overview
As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in developing a substantial portfolio of business while providing guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.

Your primary focus will be on evaluating and underwriting a portfolio valued between $25M and $40M in Commercial Lines. This includes assessing risk acceptability, establishing pricing structures, adhering to underwriting guidelines, nurturing positive relationships with agencies in designated territories, conducting audits of underwriting files, and enhancing underwriting processes.

Additionally, you will take on a managerial role, actively developing a team of Underwriters and Underwriter Trainees through effective coaching and engagement to enhance their skills and competencies. Collaboration with department AVPs and the Head of MMB will be essential as you contribute innovative solutions and ideas for improved underwriting frameworks and product offerings.


Key Responsibilities
The primary duties of this position include:

  • Underwriting a portfolio valued between $25M and $40M.
  • Assisting the Head of MMB in overseeing underwriting operations.
  • Collaborating with various business units (Claims, Compliance, Operations) to prioritize projects and implement best practices for optimal underwriting performance.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants.

Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Over 7 years of experience in commercial insurance.
  • Professional insurance designations are advantageous.
  • Previous management and leadership experience.
