Senior Risk Management Specialist

The Enterprise Risk Manager is tasked with enhancing and expanding a robust risk management framework. This position requires a proactive individual with substantial experience in risk oversight within a regulated sector. The individual will oversee the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) initiatives for the organization, ensuring the effective implementation of risk management protocols.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, guide, and execute ERM strategies and operational practices to ensure the ERM framework, along with supporting processes, risk appetite statements, tolerances, and metrics, are integrated and functional throughout the organization.
- Facilitate ongoing risk management efforts, assessments, and commitments across various departments by engaging in risk discussions and interactions to support continuous risk identification, ownership, mitigation, and acceptance.
- Participate in the Model Risk Management program from a secondary line of defense perspective, ensuring that primary line responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Collaborate with secondary and tertiary lines of defense functions, including Third Party Risk Management, Compliance, Information Security, and Internal Audit to advance enterprise risk initiatives.
- Oversee the issues management framework, including the monitoring and analysis of issues and risks within the organization and specific business units; prepare and present risk reports, analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership and the ERM Committee that highlight trends, root causes, and emerging risks.
- Maintain ERM processes, procedures, and tracking to ensure timely remediation of risk management issues, internal mandates, and regulatory guidance.
- Promote risk assessments, remediation efforts, and risk awareness throughout the organization.
- Evaluate control effectiveness and provide independent risk oversight, ensuring issues are accurately documented, comply with program requirements, and align with established risk classifications.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to evaluate their potential impact on the organization's risk profile and develop suitable mitigation strategies.
- Foster excellent communication across all organizational levels, be responsive to issue owners/managers, and deliver appropriate training throughout the organization.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of risk management frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, risk management processes, risk appetite statements, and key risk indicators, with the ability to apply both quantitative and qualitative techniques to evaluate and mitigate risks.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely across various levels, promote open dialogue, and engage in active listening with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Capability to work autonomously and responsibly with minimal supervision.
- Experience in leading and managing meetings with cross-functional teams, effectively communicating, and driving assigned tasks to completion.
- Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills with the capacity to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively to diverse stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 7+ years in risk management, preferably within the financial services sector, with knowledge of banking products, processes, and regulations.
- Relevant risk management experience with a proven track record of success in enterprise risk management, internal controls, and familiarity with regulatory guidelines.
