Position Title: Home Study Caseworker

Reporting Structure: Reports to the PRS Caseworker Supervisor

Position Summary

As part of a grant initiative from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), the Home Study Caseworker is responsible for conducting comprehensive in-person evaluations of potential sponsor families. This includes assessing the ability of sponsors to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, conducting interviews with sponsors and household members, and initiating necessary background checks. Candidates should possess experience in home study assessments in compliance with state regulations and demonstrate proficiency in drafting detailed and professional assessment reports. Knowledge of local social services and experience working with immigrant communities is essential. Familiarity with family preservation practices, kinship care, and child welfare is also required. Travel for in-home visits is a necessary component of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct all duties in alignment with the National Youth Advocate Program's mission and values.
  • Perform in-person evaluations of sponsor family homes to assess their suitability for child care.
  • Initiate background checks for sponsors and adult household members.
  • Identify and address areas requiring additional support or resources to facilitate successful sponsorship.
  • Ensure timely completion of home studies in accordance with ORR guidelines and upload findings to the appropriate platforms.
  • Prepare comprehensive and well-documented final recommendations regarding the sponsor's capacity to care for the child.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload of at least three cases.
  • Ensure high standards of documentation and compliance with program requirements.
  • Implement a coordinated case management approach that includes assessment, planning, and advocacy for the needs of the child and sponsor.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ORR policies, relevant regulations, and legal frameworks.
  • Safeguard personal identifiable information and maintain confidentiality in accordance with ORR policies.
  • Communicate effectively with care providers and ORR stakeholders.
  • Foster a respectful and supportive workplace environment that embodies the values of the organization.
  • Report any concerns or issues to leadership as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) or a related field such as psychology, sociology, or behavioral sciences.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Experience in conducting home studies in accordance with state regulations.
  • Ability to produce professional and thorough assessment reports.
  • Familiarity with local social services and experience with immigrant populations.
  • Knowledge of family preservation, kinship care, and child welfare practices.
  • Prior experience with ORR home studies or post-release services is preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, including checks with child protection agencies.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and sensory acuity.
  • Capability to engage in repetitive motions and maintain prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and performing physical activities such as bending and carrying.
  • Basic mathematical skills for standard measurements.
