Safety Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Director to join our team at Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeast Michigan. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in promoting safety excellence within the construction industry in Southeast Michigan.
Key Responsibilities- Engage with ABC construction companies to build relationships and maintain regular communication.
- Become a recognizable and trusted leader within the ABC membership, known for safety advocacy and expertise.
- Utilize ABC Nationals STEP program to assess member companies' safety challenges and offer solutions and services to address deficiencies.
- Develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the construction and safety communities, including MIOSHA.
- Identify and pursue state and federal grant opportunities to support safety services for members.
- Lead OSHA 10/30 and First-Aid training efforts for the ABC general membership.
- Create opportunities for worksite inspections, toolbox talks, safety trainings, and development of safety plans that promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Build strong member relationships that encourage greater participation in ABC events and activities.
- Stay connected with ABC National safety professionals and industry peers to exchange best practices.
- Serve as a liaison to the ABC Board of Directors, providing monthly updates on safety activities and initiatives.
- Establish a presence as a recognized safety leader in the broader construction industry.
- Identify areas requiring specialized safety training, collaborating with third-party experts to meet member needs.
- Pursue relevant certifications or training to enhance the effectiveness of the safety director role.
- Contribute regularly to ABC's email newsletters and magazine with safety-related content.
- Support the overall welfare of the organization by participating in networking events, women in construction meetings, and general association activities as assigned by the President.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional with a strong background in safety management. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives and foster a safety culture within organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing safety programs, conducting safety inspections, and delivering safety training.
