Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager

This position is responsible for coordinating, planning, and overseeing the execution of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives within a designated business unit at Carlisle Construction Materials. The role focuses on developing programs aimed at preventing workplace injuries and health issues while collaborating with business unit leaders to address and resolve EHS challenges through thorough analysis and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in regular strategic discussions with the Director of EHS and the business unit's Operations Director.
  • Support the Operations Director in strategic planning efforts, including data analysis and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Act as a mentor to site leaders, providing guidance on safety tools and EHS system development.
  • Facilitate EHS meetings within the business unit.
  • Collaborate with Site Safety Champions to implement and uphold site-specific safety plans and EHS standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive audits for compliance and policy adherence across the business unit and other facilities.
  • Manage targeted EHS projects to enhance safety and environmental performance.
  • Participate in management team meetings and safety committees.
  • Develop and deliver safety training and onboarding programs.
  • Serve as the primary resource for safety-related inquiries from leadership teams and staff.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and local safety organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and state safety regulations, maintaining accurate reporting systems.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and technological advancements by participating in professional groups.
  • Monitor and report on OSHA recordable incidents and safety performance metrics.
  • Lead investigations into EHS incidents, identifying root causes and trends.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of manufacturing processes and facility modifications with a focus on safety and environmental considerations.
  • Support company initiatives aimed at fostering a lean operational mindset.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to assess process performance and recommend improvements.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, including waste disposal and environmental consulting.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
  • Familiarity with production processes and associated equipment.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years in a health and safety role.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in safety management or a related field.
  • Over six years of experience in safety management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing EHS across multiple sites.
  • Certification from a recognized EHS professional organization (CSP, CIH).
