This position is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and executing the deployment of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives within a designated business unit at Carlisle Construction Materials. The role involves managing programs aimed at preventing workplace injuries and health issues while collaborating with unit directors and plant managers to identify, analyze, and resolve EHS challenges. The incumbent will report indirectly to the Director of Operations for the business unit and may supervise other staff members. Standard working hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with travel requirements potentially reaching up to 50% to support facilities in achieving EHS objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular strategic communication with the Director of EHS and the business unit's Director of Operations.
  • Support the Director of Operations in strategic planning for the business unit, including data analysis, problem resolution, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to site leaders on safety tools, EHS system maturity, and divisional initiatives.
  • Facilitate business unit EHS meetings alongside the Director of Operations.
  • Collaborate with Site Safety Champions to develop and uphold site-specific integrated safety plans and EHS standard practices.
  • Conduct thorough audits of policies, compliance, and special emphasis areas across the business unit and other facilities.
  • Manage and execute targeted EHS projects throughout the business unit and the wider organization.
  • Participate in management team meetings and safety committees as required.
  • Design, implement, and deliver safety training and onboarding programs.
  • Serve as the primary advisor on safety matters for leadership teams, supervisors, local safety committees, and employees.
  • Maintain close relationships with regulatory bodies and local safety organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and state safety regulations, maintaining accurate reporting and accountability systems.
  • Engage in industry groups to stay informed on trends, issues, and technological advancements.
  • Monitor OSHA recordable incidents and trends, regularly reporting safety performance metrics to leadership.
  • Lead and review all EHS incidents within the business unit, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and corrective action completion.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of manufacturing processes, facility changes, and new equipment installations to address potential environmental and safety impacts.
  • Expected to understand and support company initiatives focused on developing a lean operational mindset.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to assess process system performance and recommend necessary improvements.
  • Experience managing relationships with various vendors and environmental consultants.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulations across federal, state, and local levels.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with methods and equipment related to general production processes.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management or a related field, or equivalent education.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a health and safety role.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in safety management or a related field.
  • Over six years of experience in safety management, particularly in manufacturing or processing environments.
  • Experience managing EHS across multiple sites.
  • Certification in EHS from a recognized professional association (CSP, CIH).
