Role Requirements

UMortgage is seeking a communicative and collaborative Loan Closer. This individual will take ownership of loans assigned to them upon receiving a Clear-to-Close designation, ensuring a smooth and timely closing process. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, experience in a mortgage operations role, and a proven history of success in a high-volume setting. Are you an organized and communicative team player looking for a rewarding opportunity to advance your career?

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold and embody our company's core values and customer-centric approach to deliver outstanding service throughout the loan process.
  • Prepare and coordinate preliminary title preparation documents to begin reconciling final fee figures with the title company.
  • Examine loan files and documents for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Engage and proactively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders involved in the closing process to address any outstanding issues or discrepancies. Key parties include:
    • Internal: Loan Originators, Loan Processors, Post-Closers, Team Leaders, Lock Desk, and other Operations team members.
    • External: Underwriters, real estate agents, borrowers, title companies, attorneys, homeowners insurance agents, and escrow agents.
  • Ensure all loans are closed in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as investor and agency guidelines.
  • Stay informed about industry and regulatory changes that may affect the closing process.
  • Coordinate the timely disbursement of funds for the loan, ensuring requests are made promptly to the funding department.
  • Verify that all closing costs and fees are accurately reflected on the Closing Disclosure and align with initial disclosures.
  • Conduct a final quality control review to confirm that all documents are signed and executed correctly.
  • Ensure the completion of the Verbal Verification of Employment (VVOE) for loans prior to their scheduled closing date.
  • Guarantee that a complete closing package is sent to the settlement agent 24-48 hours before closing.
  • Review important expiration dates and confirm that the lock is valid through the funding date.
  • Verify proper vesting for Deed Preparation.
  • Review Cash-to-Close with the Loan Originator to confirm with the borrower.
  • Maintain and track individual pipeline to ensure accuracy and prevent missed closings.
  • Assist and collaborate with UMortgage's post-closing department on correspondent loans to facilitate funding and post-closing compliance.
  • Update Arive (LOS) with necessary status dates and all required documentation.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed based on business requirements.

  • 5+ years of experience in a mortgage role, preferably in Closing.
  • Proficient in mortgage lending regulations, particularly those related to closing and disclosure requirements (e.g., TRID).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and accountable mindset.
  • Excellent customer service and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and follow-up capabilities.
  • Able to multitask and prioritize projects with competing deadlines.
  • Experience with various lender platforms and TPO Portals (UWM and HPF are advantageous).
  • Experience in the Broker Channel and Non-Delegated/Correspondent Channel is preferred.
