Utilities Operations Supervisor

The Plant Utilities Supervisor is responsible for the effective management, operation, and maintenance of all plant utility systems while overseeing departmental personnel. The ideal candidate will have expertise in critical utility systems such as Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration, Plant Water, Steam Generation, Pneumatic Systems, Fire Protection, and HVAC.
This role serves as the primary supervisor for our dedicated night shift technicians, establishing work schedules and priorities to meet the operational needs of the facility. Additionally, the supervisor plays a key role in ensuring compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations through our Process Safety Management program.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead by example, ensuring team adherence to all safety and food safety protocols.
- Possess comprehensive mechanical and operational knowledge of plant utility systems to effectively train and assist technicians.
- Develop and maintain an efficient onboarding and training program for new employees.
- Support utility technicians in their development through structured training programs.
- Utilize the current CMMS/SAP system for data management and train team members in its use.
- Assist technicians with preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct daily safety talks, huddle meetings, and supervisor rounds, providing support and feedback to team members.
- Participate in plant audits and ensure completion of PM reviews.
- Collaborate with other departments to fulfill customer requirements and maintain effective partnerships.
- Order necessary parts and materials and follow up on their procurement.
- Ensure proper PM procedures and schedules are in place for equipment maintenance.
- Supervise and evaluate employee performance to ensure productivity standards are met.
- Adhere to all relevant PSM, safety, and environmental policies.
- Engage in the Process Safety Management program with a thorough understanding of its components.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor as part of the management team.
- Encourage open communication and foster positive relationships across all departments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and personnel development.
- Recommend and implement process improvement projects.
- Act as a vital member of the facility's Engineering & Maintenance team.
- Evaluate and recommend maintenance support resources to optimize machinery upkeep.
- Facilitate organizational change in alignment with company goals while upholding ethical standards.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in Industrial Refrigeration is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role; 5 years of experience in a mechanical or refrigeration-related field is preferred, with a strong understanding of ammonia refrigeration processes.
- Experience in the food processing and packaging industry is advantageous, along with knowledge of utility systems such as Water, Steam, Pneumatics, Fire Protection, and HVAC.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in CMMS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and achieve results.
Travel Requirements: Minimal travel (0-5%) to corporate headquarters, training sessions, and vendor locations.
Salary Range: $59,000 - $115,000.
