Position: Plant Utilities Manager
We are looking for a dedicated Plant Utilities Manager to join a prominent food manufacturing and distribution organization. In this role, you will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance, and supervision of all plant utility systems, as well as overseeing department personnel. Your expertise will cover essential utility systems such as Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration, Plant Water, Steam Generation, Pneumatic Systems, Fire Protection, and HVAC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example, ensuring adherence to all safety and food safety protocols while addressing any deficiencies.
  • Possess comprehensive mechanical and operational knowledge of plant utility systems to effectively train and assist technicians.
  • Establish and maintain a streamlined onboarding training program for new employees.
  • Train and mentor utility technicians, promoting their professional development and knowledge through established training systems.
  • Utilize the current CMMS/SAP system for data management and train team members in its effective use.
  • Support technicians through preventative maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Oversee daily safety discussions, team meetings, and provide support to team members, including daily performance recaps to management.
  • Participate in plant audits and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet customer requirements, fostering positive partnerships.
  • Initiate orders for necessary parts and materials, ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Ensure proper PM procedures and schedules are in place to support equipment functionality and maintenance.
  • Supervise and manage staff to ensure productivity and performance standards are met.
  • Comply with all relevant PSM/Safety/Environmental policies while promoting a safety-conscious work environment.
  • Engage in the Process Safety Management program with a thorough understanding of its components.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professionalism as part of the management team.
  • Encourage open communication and foster positive relationships across all departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and personnel development.
  • Recommend and implement process improvement projects.
  • Act as a key contributor to the facility's Engineering & Maintenance organization.
  • Evaluate and recommend maintenance support resources to ensure optimal machinery upkeep within budgetary constraints.
  • Play a crucial role in implementing organizational changes to support company objectives while upholding ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in Industrial Refrigeration is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a mechanical/refrigeration-related field, with a strong understanding of ammonia refrigeration processes and equipment.
  • Experience in the food processing and packaging industry is preferred, along with knowledge of utility systems such as Water, Steam, Pneumatics, Fire Protection, and HVAC.
  • Proficient in CMMS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on independent and results-driven work.
  • Minimal travel may be required for training and vendor interactions.
