Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety, care, and supervision of inmates within the Lubbock County Detention Center, adhering to all relevant policies and state standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the care, custody, and management of inmates.
  • Process inmate admissions and releases, including conducting searches and verifying medical information.
  • Engage in communication with various stakeholders regarding inmate status.
  • Conduct security inspections and document inmate behavior; investigate any irregular activities.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in accordance with established policies and standards.
  • Distribute essential supplies, food, and medications to inmates.
  • Supervise visitation sessions and maintain accurate records of daily operations.
  • Address disciplinary issues and manage emergency situations effectively.
  • Serve meals in compliance with established procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and reports using computer systems.
  • Manage inventory and supply documentation.
  • Assist in the transportation of inmates to court as required.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Education/Experience: A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum age of 21 years. A valid Texas driver's license is mandatory. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as an understanding of the Texas Minimum Jail Standards and relevant policies. The ability to work independently and maintain physical fitness for job responsibilities is crucial. Officers must be capable of responding to emergencies and managing potentially hazardous situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Basic Jailer's License Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and lifting. Officers should be prepared for the physical challenges associated with emergency responses.

Work Environment: The position involves working in a detention facility, with exposure to various risks and irregular hours. The noise level may vary from moderate to loud.
