Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detention Officer to join our team at Lubbock County, TX. As a key member of our law enforcement team, you will be responsible for maintaining the security, care, and control of inmates and the detention center structure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Care and Custody of Inmates: Ensure the safety and well-being of inmates, including admitting and releasing them from the detention center, conducting searches, and verifying medical information.
  • Security and Surveillance: Perform security checks, document inmate actions, and investigate any suspicious activities.
  • Communication and Documentation: Communicate effectively with professionals and the general public regarding inmates, and document all daily activities, reports, and logs.
  • Supply and Logistics: Distribute supplies, food, medication, and other necessities to inmates, and maintain inventory and records.
  • Disciplinary Actions: Handle disciplinary problems, restrain violent and suicidal inmates, and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Meal Service and Hygiene: Serve meals according to detention division policy and procedures, and maintain sanitary conditions of the detention center structure.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Create and maintain various records, reports, and logs on the computer, and assist in transporting inmates to court.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, and at least 21 years of age. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances. Ability to work independently, maintain physical conditioning, and effectively handle emergency situations.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Possession of a Basic Jailer's License Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Work Environment

Employees will work in a jail environment, which includes responding to emergency situations, working closely with others, irregular working hours, exposure to bodily fluids, and possible exposure to armed/dangerous persons and communicable diseases.
