We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Officer to join our team at Texas Tech University. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for our employees and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to minimize risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and education to employees on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with departmental faculty and staff to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety procedures, training records, and incident reports.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school; five years of safety-related/research laboratory work experience OR Associate Degree in Environmental Science or related fields, three years safety-related/research laboratory work experience OR Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or industrial hygiene, one year of safety-related/research laboratory work experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to plan and evaluate safety and health programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a certified 40-hour HAZWOPER course.
