Regional Facilities Custodial Specialist

GENERAL OVERVIEW
Engage in moderately complex custodial tasks within designated areas. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of facilities under the Department of Public Safety; managing custodial equipment; and ordering necessary supplies. This role may involve training other staff members and operates under general supervision, allowing for some initiative and independent decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and washing windows, light fixtures, and carpets.
- Maintain restrooms by replenishing supplies and utilizing appropriate cleaning agents.
- Clean office furniture, walls, and windows; dispose of trash; and ensure comprehensive cleaning of office spaces.
- Disinfect and clean various areas including restrooms, offices, and additional facilities.
- Conduct carpet maintenance and care.
- Clean drapes and upholstery, and repair venetian blinds and curtain rods as needed.
- Assist in relocating furniture for cleaning, office reconfigurations, or special events.
- Operate floor maintenance machinery, including buffers, strippers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Perform minor repairs on custodial equipment as necessary.
- Manage and restock custodial supply closets.
- May engage in limited landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming shrubs, edging, weeding, and maintaining cleanliness in outdoor areas.
- Adhere to scheduled work hours and attendance policies.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education - High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience - At least six months of relevant experience in custodial methods, materials, and equipment is preferred.
Licensure - A valid driver’s license from the state of residence is required.
Custodial Skills - Proficient in performing custodial tasks and operating modern cleaning equipment, including floor maintenance machines and pressure washers. Ability to interpret safety labels on cleaning chemicals.
Regulatory Knowledge - Familiarity with TXDPS, state, and federal regulations, as well as cleaning techniques and inventory management principles.
Technical Skills - Capable of using standard office software for timecard entry and email management, or willing to learn.
Analytical Skills - Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy. Capable of identifying and resolving issues effectively.
Interpersonal Skills - Excellent interpersonal abilities are essential, requiring poise, tact, and the capacity to foster effective professional relationships.
Organizational Skills - Must be organized, adaptable, and able to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment. Ability to follow complex instructions.
Confidentiality - Must handle sensitive information responsibly.
Schedule - Availability for after-hours and weekend work may be necessary for special projects.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
The physical and environmental demands necessary for successful performance in this role include:
- Work in both indoor and outdoor settings, seasonally.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and kneel.
- Capability to climb ladders.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain visual acuity.
- Capacity to lift weights up to fifty pounds.
- Occasional driving may be required.
State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information:
Employees selected for positions within the same salary group will retain their current salary. Those moving to a new title within the same salary group may see a salary increase of no more than 3.4% based on qualifications.
