Summary

As a Junior Correctional Officer, you will play a crucial role in the efficient and secure processing of individuals entering and exiting the Lubbock County Detention Center. You will serve as the primary liaison for daily interactions with legal representatives, law enforcement personnel, and the public, while ensuring the safety and security of both the facility and its staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial assessments for mental health, medical, and developmental disabilities for all individuals entering the facility.
  • Ensure the accuracy and legitimacy of arrest documentation, warrants, and court orders to validate the detention of individuals.
  • Verify release documentation, bonds, and court orders to confirm the lawful release of individuals from custody.
  • Utilize body scanning technology to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
  • Document, search, and manage personal property of individuals to mitigate the risk of contraband within the facility.
  • Assess the appropriate level of security screening for individuals entering the facility using established protocols.
  • Maintain necessary certifications for accessing criminal history information.
  • Perform fingerprinting and biological sample collection as required.
  • Screen individuals and visitors for outstanding warrants.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of arrest, booking, and release documentation.
  • Ensure the security of the facility by managing incoming and outgoing correspondence for contraband.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Qualifications: To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty. Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is required. A language skills assessment and typing evaluation will be conducted. A minimum typing speed of 35 WPM with 80% accuracy is necessary.

Education & Experience: A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with a valid Texas driver's license. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates should possess knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards. A foundational understanding of the Texas Minimum Jail Standards and Lubbock County policies is expected. The ability to work independently and maintain physical fitness for the demands of the role is crucial.

Physical Demands: Candidates must be capable of performing physical tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting moderate weights. The role may involve responding to emergencies and working in a challenging environment.

Work Environment: The position requires working in a detention facility, which may involve exposure to various hazards and irregular hours.
