Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Location and Design Division, you will be responsible for designing, managing, and producing traffic control device plans for roadway projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and manage traffic control device plans for roadway projects, ensuring compliance with federal and state standards, guidelines, and policies.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to review and approve designs developed by consultants or local jurisdictions.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring deliverables are met within established scope and schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to consultants, ensuring they understand policy requirements and stages of project development.
  • Develop and maintain quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet high standards.
Requirements
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple assignments within set timeframes.
  • Skilled in MS Office software and use of traffic engineer design programs.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices related to traffic control devices.
  • Ability to interpret and use construction plans, MUTCD, and VA Supplement to MUTCD.
  • Knowledge of project development process, policies, guidelines, or regulations related to traffic control devices and ITS elements.
  • Ability to train and evaluate the work of others.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with project development process, policies, guidelines, and regulations as it relates to roadway lighting, traffic control devices, and ITS elements.
  • Skilled in the use of lighting design software programs (i.e. AGI32).
  • Professional Engineers License.
  • EIT is also preferred.
