We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Manufacturing Technician to become a vital part of our production team, contributing to the realization of our digital fabrication capabilities. This position will involve working with both metal and wood materials, encompassing a range of tasks from CNC programming to the precise operation of hand tools and finishing equipment. You will collaborate closely with our manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure that the final products meet the high standards expected by discerning clients.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication

  • Operate sophisticated fabrication machinery, including a 4-axis wood CNC router, a high-powered fiber laser, and a CNC press brake.
  • Engage in CNC programming and maintain/improve NC code.
  • Conduct daily machine setup and calibration.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance and tracking.
  • Participate in pilot runs of new products to identify and resolve production challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering to enhance workstations, mobile platforms, and fixtures for efficient and safe material handling.

Finishing & Assembly

  • Assist in ongoing customer production through sanding, painting, and final assembly tasks.
  • Manage job order prioritization and ensure compliance with production protocols.
  • Develop and refine work instructions to guarantee accuracy in production runs and the introduction of new products.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and ensure accurate material counts and replenishment requests.
  • Engage in pilot runs of new products to understand and address production challenges.
  • Work with engineering to continuously improve processing and material handling systems.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in metalworking or woodworking, with at least 4 years of direct fabrication experience in wood and/or metal, including 1 year of responsibility for multiple processes and overall part quality. Candidates with relevant technical degrees and a strong ability to quickly learn new technologies are also encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software is preferred.
  • Experience with CAM platforms for translating designs into NC code for subtractive manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of safe working practices with hand tools, power tools, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery.
  • Willingness to promote safety practices among peers.
  • Good understanding of architectural materials, particularly wood and metal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute effectively to team efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capable of regularly lifting and moving materials weighing up to 75 lbs and positioning oneself and tools to work in various environments.

Location & Reporting

This role is based in Austin, TX, and reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a full-time, hourly position with opportunities for overtime.
