We are in search of a motivated and skilled Manufacturing Technician to join our production team and help bring our digital fabrication capabilities to life. This position will involve working with both metal and wood materials. The scope of work will include CNC programming, as well as the precise operation of hand tools and manual finishing equipment. In this role, you will collaborate closely with both manufacturing and engineering teams to create a final product that meets the high standards of discerning design professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication

  • Operate advanced manufacturing equipment, including a 4-axis wood CNC router, a high-power fiber laser, and a CNC press brake.
  • Perform CNC programming and maintain/improve NC code.
  • Conduct daily machine setup and calibration.
  • Monitor and execute ongoing equipment maintenance.
  • Engage in pilot runs of new products to identify and resolve production challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering to enhance workstations, mobile platforms, and fixtures for efficient and safe material handling.

Finishing & Assembly

  • Assist in customer production through sanding, painting, and final assembly tasks.
  • Oversee job order priority workflow and ensure compliance with production guidelines.
  • Develop and refine work instructions to guarantee accuracy in customer production runs and new product introductions.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and ensure all materials used are accounted for, issuing replenishment requests as necessary.
  • Participate in pilot runs of new products to ensure production challenges are promptly addressed.
  • Work with engineering to continuously improve workstations and processes for efficient material handling.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in metalworking or woodworking, with at least 4 years of direct experience in fabrication and 1 year of responsibility for multiple processes and overall product quality. Candidates with relevant technical degrees and a proven ability to quickly adapt to new technologies will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software is preferred.
  • Experience using CAM platforms to convert designs into NC code for subtractive manufacturing processes is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of safe working practices with hand tools, power tools, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery.
  • Willingness to promote safety practices among peers.
  • Good understanding of, or interest in, architectural materials, particularly wood and metal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and contribute effectively to the team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capable of regularly lifting and moving materials weighing up to 75 lbs. and positioning oneself and tools to work in various environments.

Location & Reporting

This position is based in Austin, TX, and reports to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a full-time, hourly role with opportunities for overtime.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Leadership of the production line.
