We are in search of a dedicated and dynamic Manufacturing Technician to become a vital part of our production team, assisting in the realization of our digital fabrication initiatives. This position will emphasize fabrication processes involving both metal and wood materials. The scope of work will encompass CNC programming as well as the precise application of hand tools and manual finishing equipment. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our manufacturing and engineering teams to create products that meet the high standards of discerning design professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication Duties

  • Operate advanced manufacturing machinery, including a 4-axis wood CNC router, a high-powered fiber laser, and a CNC press brake.
  • Engage in CNC programming and maintain/improve NC code.
  • Conduct daily machine setup and calibration.
  • Monitor and perform regular equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in pilot runs of new products to identify and resolve production challenges promptly.
  • Collaborate with engineering to enhance workstations, mobile platforms, and fixtures necessary for the efficient and safe processing of materials and products.

Finishing and Assembly Responsibilities

  • Assist in ongoing customer production through sanding, painting, and final assembly tasks.
  • Oversee job order priority workflow and ensure compliance with production travelers.
  • Develop and refine work instructions to guarantee accuracy in customer production runs and the introduction of new products and features.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and ensure that all materials used are accounted for, issuing replenishment requests as needed.
  • Engage in pilot runs of new products to ensure that production challenges are recognized and addressed swiftly.
  • Work alongside engineering to continuously improve workstations, mobile platforms, and fixtures required for efficient and safe material handling.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in metalworking or woodworking, with a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in fabricating with wood and/or metal, including at least 1 year of responsibility for multiple processes and overall part quality. Candidates with relevant technical degrees and a proven ability to quickly adapt to new technologies will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software is preferred.
  • Experience using CAM platforms to convert designs into NC code for subtractive manufacturing processes is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of safe working practices with hand tools, power tools, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery.
  • A commitment to ensuring the safety practices of colleagues.
  • A solid understanding of, or interest in, architectural materials, particularly wood and metal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute effectively to team efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 75 lbs and position oneself and tools to work in various orientations.

Location & Reporting Structure

This position operates from a designated location and reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a full-time, hourly role with opportunities for overtime compensation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Leadership of the production line.
