We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Manufacturing Technician to become a vital part of our production team, contributing to the realization of our digital fabrication potential. This position will involve working with both metal and wood materials, encompassing a wide range of tasks from CNC programming to the meticulous use of hand tools and finishing equipment. You will collaborate closely with our manufacturing and engineering teams to create products that align with the high standards of discerning designers.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication Tasks

  • Operate sophisticated fabrication machinery, including a 4-axis wood CNC router, a high-powered fiber laser, and a CNC press brake.
  • Engage in CNC programming and maintain/improve NC code.
  • Conduct daily machine setup and calibration.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance and track performance.
  • Participate in pilot runs of new products to identify and resolve production challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering to enhance workstations, mobile platforms, and fixtures for efficient and safe material handling.

Finishing and Assembly Duties

  • Assist in ongoing customer production through sanding, painting, and final assembly tasks.
  • Oversee job order prioritization and ensure compliance with production guidelines.
  • Develop and refine work instructions to guarantee accuracy in production runs and new product introductions.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and ensure all materials are accounted for, issuing replenishment requests as necessary.
  • Engage in pilot runs of new products to understand and address production challenges effectively.
  • Work with engineering to continuously improve operational processes and safety measures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in metalworking or woodworking, with at least 4 years of hands-on experience in fabrication and 1 year of responsibility for quality across multiple processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software is preferred.
  • Experience using CAM platforms to convert designs into NC code for subtractive manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of safe working practices with hand tools, power tools, and industrial machinery.
  • Commitment to ensuring the safety of oneself and others.
  • Interest in architectural materials, particularly wood and metal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute effectively to team efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to regularly lift and position materials weighing up to 75 lbs and maneuver tools in various positions.

Location & Reporting Structure

This role is based in Austin, TX, and reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a full-time, hourly position with opportunities for overtime.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Leadership of the production line.
