About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Services Leadership professional to join our team at Principal Financial Group, Inc. as an Assistant Manager or Manager-Retirement Actuarial Services. This role will be responsible for leading the actuarial and data management team, providing leadership and collaboration skills to ensure high-quality, efficient, and timely actuarial and data management services for our defined benefit clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership, training coordination, development, and workload management to a team of employees who provide actuarial and data management services to clients, ensuring high-quality service that achieves business objectives at an acceptable cost and timely manner.
  • Service Monitoring and Problem Resolution: Monitor services provided by the team, ensuring a balanced workload for timely services that meet all governmental deadlines, customer needs, and business unit performance standards, while managing the resolution of escalated problems.
  • Team Development and Coaching: Select, lead, coach, and motivate the team to further their development and utilize their capabilities to achieve progressive performance objectives.
  • Process Improvement: Suggest and lead through improvement ideas in developing more efficient work processes for the team.
  • Self-Development: Initiate ongoing self-development, acquire and maintain knowledge through appropriate HR courses and business-specific educational opportunities.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, and 4+ years related work experience in financial services.
  • Leadership Experience: Informal leadership experience required, formal leadership a plus.
  • Business Acumen: Excellent understanding of retirement business and customer service requirements.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal, organizational/leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Defined Benefit Experience: Defined Benefit experience.
  • Actuarial Background: Actuarial background.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of mainframe and/or Express is a plus.

  • Salary Range: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances, a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance.
  • Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal, or short-term illness.
