Department Overview:

Position Summary:

The laboratory led by Dr. David Watkins is seeking a skilled Research Associate dedicated to advancing the development and assessment of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions targeting viral infections and other diseases, including cancers. The Watkins lab specializes in exploring immune responses to viral pathogens and routinely engages with BSL2 agents such as HIV/SIV, Dengue, Zika, and Yellow Fever. Additionally, we conduct research under BSL3 conditions to manage pathogens like Coronaviruses and influenza.

This research support role is responsible for executing research and development tasks by designing and implementing experiments within a regulated laboratory environment, guided by the Principal Investigator or a designated representative. This position requires creativity and independence in data collection and experimental administration, along with meticulous observation, data analysis, and result interpretation.

The core responsibilities encompass:

  • Conducting mammalian cell culture and bacterial DNA preparations.
  • Processing animal blood to derive various components for immunological applications.
  • Independently researching relevant topics prior to consultation with senior scientists.
  • Planning and organizing experiments in alignment with the timelines and goals of ongoing research initiatives.
  • Supporting research scientists with their daily experimental tasks.
  • Assisting in the drafting of manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned, with the understanding that the omission of specific tasks does not prevent the supervisor from assigning related responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a master's degree and a minimum of one year of experience in a relevant field. The degree must be conferred by the commencement of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and bacterial cloning.
  • Experience in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, and virology.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $53,000 to $75,348.30.
