Position Summary:
The laboratory led by Dr. David Watkins is seeking a skilled Research Associate dedicated to advancing the development and assessment of vaccines, diagnostic tools, and therapeutic solutions for viral infections and other diseases, including various cancers. The focus of the Watkins lab is to unravel the immune response mechanisms to viral pathogens, frequently engaging with BSL2 agents such as HIV/SIV, Dengue, Zika, and Yellow Fever. Additionally, we conduct research under BSL3 conditions to manage more hazardous pathogens, including Coronaviruses and influenza.
This research support role is responsible for independently executing research and development tasks by designing and performing experiments within a regulated laboratory environment, under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator or their delegate. The core responsibilities of this position encompass:
- Conducting data collection and managing experimental protocols.
- Making meticulous observations, analyzing experimental data, and interpreting findings.
- Compiling results and preparing technical documentation and reports.
- Assisting in the preparation of research outcomes for publication.
The position requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the scientific field. Key experimental tasks include:
- Maintaining mammalian cell cultures and preparing bacterial DNA.
- Processing animal blood samples for various immunological applications.
- Independently researching topics prior to consultation with senior scientists.
- Planning and organizing experiments in alignment with ongoing research objectives.
- Supporting laboratory scientists with daily experimental activities.
- Contributing to the drafting of manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Performing additional duties as assigned, which may relate logically to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree along with at least one year of relevant experience. The degree should be conferred by the commencement of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and bacterial cloning.
- Experience in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, and virology.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is between $53,000 and $75,348.30.
