Position Summary:

The laboratory of Dr. David Watkins is seeking a skilled Research Associate dedicated to advancing the development and effectiveness of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions against viral infections and various diseases, including cancers. The Watkins lab specializes in exploring immune responses to viral pathogens and routinely engages with BSL2 agents such as HIV/SIV, Dengue, Zika, and Yellow Fever. Additionally, we conduct research under BSL3 conditions to manage pathogens like Coronaviruses and influenza.

This research support role is responsible for independently executing research and development tasks by designing and conducting experiments within a regulated laboratory environment, guided by the Principal Investigator or their delegate. The core responsibilities of this position involve:

  • Conducting data collection and managing experimental protocols.
  • Making thorough observations, analyzing results, and interpreting findings.
  • Compiling research outcomes, preparing technical documentation, and assisting in the preparation of results for publication.

The position requires familiarity with commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing mammalian cell culture and bacterial DNA preparations.
  • Processing animal blood into various components for immunological applications.
  • Conducting independent research on relevant topics prior to discussions with senior scientists.
  • Planning and organizing experiments in alignment with ongoing research objectives.
  • Supporting research scientists with their daily experimental tasks.
  • Assisting in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned, with the understanding that the omission of specific tasks does not prevent the supervisor from assigning related responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess a master's degree and a minimum of one year of experience in a relevant field. The degree must be obtained by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and bacterial cloning.
  • Experience in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, and virology.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $53,000 to $75,348.30.
