Position Title: Community Liaison Fellow

Overview:
Are you passionate about building genuine connections with community organizations, leaders, and environmental agencies? The Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is seeking a Community Liaison Fellow to play a pivotal role in cultivating partnerships with community stakeholders, understanding their needs, and enhancing access to natural spaces for diverse communities in our region.

About POST:
POST is committed to increasing equitable access to nature through a two-year, full-time fellowship. The Community Liaison Fellow will focus on establishing and maintaining sustainable relationships between communities and nature, prioritizing historically marginalized groups in our initiatives to tackle disparities in access.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a public representative of POST, promoting conservation efforts while aligning community and environmental priorities.
  • Engage with various demographics, particularly youth and young adults, to foster a sense of connection to nature.
  • Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with stakeholders in the Bayside community, including local organizations, residents, and officials.
  • Collaborate on POST's community listening initiatives to identify shared values and opportunities for community-driven projects.
  • Coordinate community meetings and input sessions to gather insights on community needs and aspirations.
  • Lead the development and execution of community conservation projects that emphasize equitable access to nature.
  • Facilitate inclusive planning processes for new parks and trails, ensuring they reflect the diverse needs of the communities served.
  • Advocate for collaborative initiatives, including the Bay to Sea Trail and the Dumbarton Rail Corridor project.
  • Support the Director of Culture, Equity, and Belonging with administrative tasks related to equitable access programs.
  • Be available for evening and weekend events to engage with the community.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, with a focus on youth involvement and program development.
  • A degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience demonstrating the skills necessary for effective community engagement.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Understanding of current trends in community engagement, environmental justice, and conservation.
  • Experience managing projects independently with minimal supervision.
  • Interest in equitable public access planning and natural resource conservation.
  • Commitment to POST's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the communities and landscapes of the Peninsula and Bayside regions is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred, as many community members may speak Spanish as their first language.
  • A valid California Driver's license is required for travel to community meetings.

Physical Requirements:
  • Effective communication and task completion using various technologies.
  • Ability to navigate different terrains while leading community groups.
  • Capability to drive to various locations for meetings and site visits.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 20 lbs. for events.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position ranges from $71,370 to $79,300, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
