The Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is seeking a Community Engagement Fellow to play a pivotal role in cultivating and strengthening partnerships within our region. This position is essential for understanding community needs and enhancing access to natural spaces for diverse populations.

About the Fellowship:

POST offers a full-time, two-year fellowship designed to promote equitable access to nature. The Community Engagement Fellow will focus on fostering sustainable relationships between communities and nature, particularly in historically underserved areas. The geographic emphasis will be on the Southern San Mateo County Bayside communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a representative of POST, engaging with community members and aligning conservation efforts with local values.
  • Work closely with the Director of Relational Conservation to develop community-driven conservation projects.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Culture, Equity, and Belonging to implement programs that engage the Bayside communities.
  • Facilitate community meetings to gather input and understand shared values, identifying opportunities for collaboration.
  • Support the planning and execution of educational programs and community events.
  • Advocate for initiatives that promote equitable access to nature and enhance community involvement in conservation efforts.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement and youth programming.
  • A degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience demonstrating community engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of environmental justice, community engagement practices, and conservation efforts.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with local communities and government structures is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus, as many community members may be Spanish speakers.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively using various technologies and to interact with both digital and printed materials.
  • Capacity to walk various distances and lead groups in outdoor settings.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment for events and meetings.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for community events.
