Senior Chemical Engineer for Energy Solutions

Position Title: Chemical Engineer, Powder Scale-Up
Overview: Alsym Energy is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic engineer with a strong interest in energy storage technologies. This role presents an exciting opportunity to spearhead innovative developments in materials and processes for cutting-edge energy storage solutions. The ideal candidate will engage in active research and development initiatives, collaborating closely with a diverse team of engineers and scientists to create products that meet stringent performance standards.
Industry Context: The field of energy storage systems is rapidly evolving. Recent challenges, including supply chain disruptions and safety incidents associated with lithium-ion batteries, have led to increased costs and concerns regarding technology reliability. Alsym is pioneering a unique proprietary aqueous battery technology designed to rival advanced lithium-ion batteries, offering a cost-effective and inherently safer alternative.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience with proven success in equipment commissioning, process innovation, and/or chemical scale-up
- Experience with large-scale manufacturing technologies and machinery
- Hands-on problem solver capable of addressing process and equipment challenges
- Preferred familiarity with industrial powder processing and separation technologies (e.g., sieves, spray dryers, milling)
- Preferred knowledge of basic statistical methods, control charts, and/or statistical process control
- Familiarity with standard battery manufacturing processes and equipment, such as slot-die coaters and slurry handling systems, is advantageous but not mandatory
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the scale-up initiatives for manufacturing processes of active materials
- Define, size, and design pilot-scale manufacturing systems
- Commission and validate new prototype manufacturing technologies
- Develop process control documentation, standard operating procedures, and any necessary materials for establishing a robust manufacturing process
- Conduct practical experiments in the laboratory using prototype materials to inform scale-up strategies
