Job Title: Equipment Engineer
Job Overview: Alsym Energy is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic engineer with a strong interest in energy storage technologies. This role offers the chance to spearhead innovative developments in materials and processes for cutting-edge energy storage systems. The ideal candidate will engage in active research and development efforts, collaborating closely with a team of engineers and scientists to produce high-performance products.
Industry Context: The field of energy storage systems is rapidly evolving. Recent years have seen supply chain challenges and significant safety incidents related to lithium-ion batteries, leading to increased costs and diminished trust in the technology. Alsym is pioneering a proprietary aqueous battery technology that aims to rival leading lithium-ion batteries, providing a more cost-effective and inherently safer alternative.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience demonstrating success in equipment commissioning, process development, and pilot line operations.
- Experience with standard battery production processes and equipment, such as electrode stamping machines and pouch cell assembly machines, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with industrial powder processing equipment (sieves, spray dryers, milling, etc.) is advantageous.
- A hands-on individual capable of troubleshooting process and equipment issues while also delegating tasks to others and contractors.
- Ability to adapt equipment and tooling to meet the evolving needs of operations.
- Knowledge of facility design and planning for pilot-scale operations is preferred.
- Proficiency with engineering software tools is required (CAD, Mechanical and Electrical Layout tools, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the sizing, procurement, and commissioning of pilot manufacturing equipment.
- Manage the upkeep of all pilot equipment, with assistance from team members and service contractors.
- Contribute to the design and layout of current and future manufacturing facilities.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to create process control plans, standard operating procedures, schedules, and necessary documentation for defining a mature manufacturing process.
- Conduct hands-on experiments in the laboratory using prototype materials to inform scale-up initiatives.
