Woburn, Massachusetts, United States Alsym Energy Full time

Job Title: Equipment Engineer

Job Overview: Alsym Energy is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic engineer with a strong interest in energy storage technology. This role presents an exciting opportunity to spearhead innovative developments in materials and processes for cutting-edge energy storage solutions. The ideal candidate will engage in active research and development initiatives, collaborating closely with a team of engineers and scientists to create products that meet stringent performance standards.

Industry Context: The field of energy storage systems is rapidly evolving. Recent years have seen challenges such as supply-chain disruptions and significant safety incidents related to lithium-ion batteries, leading to increased costs and diminished trust in the technology. Alsym is pioneering a novel proprietary aqueous battery technology aimed at competing with leading lithium-ion batteries, offering a more cost-effective solution with built-in non-flammability.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience demonstrating success in equipment commissioning, process development, and pilot line operations.
  • Experience with standard battery manufacturing processes and equipment, such as electrode stamping and pouch cell assembly, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with industrial powder processing equipment (e.g., sieves, spray dryers, milling machines) is strongly preferred.
  • A hands-on approach to troubleshooting process and equipment issues, while also possessing the ability to delegate tasks to team members and contractors.
  • Capability to adapt equipment and tooling to meet the dynamic needs of operations.
  • Knowledge of facility design and planning for pilot-scale operations is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools is essential (e.g., CAD, mechanical and electrical layout tools).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the sizing, procurement, and commissioning of pilot manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all pilot equipment, collaborating with team members and service contractors.
  • Contribute to the design and layout of current and future manufacturing facilities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop process control plans, standard operating procedures, schedules, and any necessary documentation to define a mature manufacturing process.
  • Conduct hands-on experiments in the laboratory using prototype materials to inform scale-up initiatives.

Compensation, Benefits, and Perks:

We are dedicated to providing fair compensation and a supportive work environment for our employees, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. This includes premium medical insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield, dental coverage through Bento Dental, a flexible Paid Time Off program, and a robust Harassment Policy that emphasizes Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Gender Protections. All employees are eligible for Paid Family Medical Leave, 401k plans, and stock options. A detailed overview of our benefits will be available upon offer.
