Job Title: Assistant Director of Facilities

Randolph-Macon College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director of Facilities. This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Director of Operations and Physical Plant.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Facilities will be responsible for project management and general oversight in areas of construction, maintenance, and special events. This includes directing staff and operations for the trades department, maintaining a working roster of 60 full-time staff members, and overseeing responsibilities such as trades, grounds, custodial services, support services, and special events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director in developing, maintaining, and projecting annual operations and capital budgets.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and physical plant labor forces to ensure timely completion of construction, capital, and renovation projects.
  • Assist the Director with energy management programs to reduce energy consumption and develop strategies to enhance operations in trades, grounds, custodial services, vehicle fleet management, and mail services.
  • Direct staff and operations of the trades department in maintenance and operations functions in college facilities.
  • Participate in strategy development to enhance operations and respond to campus emergencies as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, five years recent managerial experience in construction and facilities management in higher education or equivalent required.
  • Working knowledge of central boiler and chiller plant operations, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical knowledge required.
  • Extensive experience in construction and facilities management with emphasis on trades-related functions (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing).
  • Experience with management of budgets and contract language, strong negotiating skills required.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines concurrently.
  • Ability to establish and work under budgetary constraints for small, large, and operational activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
  • Analytical, reasoning, and adaptability skills necessary for evaluation processes and final independent actions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing facilities work order systems and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook programs.
  • Demonstrated management skills in regulatory compliance for trade-specific requirements and ability to interpret code regulations.
