Position Overview

CERIS is on the lookout for a dedicated MCS Certified Coder. This role involves the meticulous review of previously coded medical invoices to ensure accuracy in coding practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and process medical invoices to ensure compliance with established billing and coding standards, state regulations, and client specifications.
  • Assign appropriate codes including ICD-9, ICD-10, E/M, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and units based on documentation from healthcare providers.
  • Implement NCCI (National Correct Coding Initiative) edits and adhere to CPT guidelines.
  • Evaluate the validity and compensability of claims using proprietary software.
  • Provide updates on claim statuses and offer recommendations to referring offices.
  • Thoroughly read and interpret medical reports.
  • Assist colleagues with complex claims as needed.
  • Stay informed on the latest changes in medical coding standards and regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with safety regulations, including HIPAA compliance.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Quick learner with the ability to grasp claims practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proven ability to meet performance metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Mathematical proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Certified Professional Coding (CPC) certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) is mandatory.
  • Preferred: 2 years of experience in medical coding.
  • Experience in orthopedic billing/coding is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Pain Management, Anesthesia, or General Surgery coding is a plus.
  • Experience with E/M coding and down-coding.
  • Familiarity with EncoderPro software is beneficial.
  • Experience in workers' compensation is an asset.

PRODUCTION EXPECTATIONS:

  • Achieve daily production targets.
  • Maintain an accuracy rate of 98% or higher.

COMPENSATION:

CorVel employs a market-based approach to compensation, with salary ranges varying based on location and other factors such as skills, experience, and market conditions. Pay Range: $45,958 – $68,590.
