Inpatient Medical Coder Role

The Inpatient Medical Coder is tasked with the precise application of ICD-10 codes for diagnoses and procedures pertaining to inpatient and outpatient records from Emergency Room discharges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Primary Duties:
  • Assign diagnostic codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations concerning insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, as well as DRG coding, sequencing, and CPT coding
  • Conduct quality improvement assessments as designated
  • Perform additional responsibilities related to Health Information Management
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Medical Record Technology program
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Health Information Management Coding
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or a relevant coding certification
Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in utilizing 3M Encoder software for ICD-10-CM and CPT coding
  • Strong understanding of medical conditions, treatments, and surgical procedures
Collaboration with Other Departments:

This role involves collaboration with medical personnel and physicians across the healthcare facility.

Physical Requirements:

The position necessitates extended periods of sitting at a workstation, engaging in phone conversations, and operating a computer. Essential auditory and near vision acuity is required. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds is also necessary.

Work Environment:
