The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a vital role in the healthcare community, ensuring the safe and effective administration of medications to residents. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and administer medications to residents in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
- Document resident conditions and needs in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and communicate any changes to the charge nurse.
- Perform vital signs and document as assigned.
- Monitor and assist with ordering and care of resident supplies and prescriptions.
- Recognize and respond to resident care needs, making prompt and accurate judgments.
- Maintain a safe and tidy resident environment, adhering to infection control practices.
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Current CMA certification (Medication Aide) and CNA Certification.
- Minimum 1 year of related experience; preferred 5 years of experience.
- Excellent communication skills, computer literacy, and team orientation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under pressure.
Working Conditions:
The CMA works primarily in a healthcare community environment, with possible limited exposure to residents' infectious conditions. The ability to work in an environment conducive to caring for residents, with or without reasonable accommodation, is essential.
Physical and Mental Effort:
The CMA must be able to move throughout the buildings and grounds as needed, with the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Working under some stressful conditions to meet resident/family needs and deadlines is a requirement of this position.
