About the Role

Share Our Strength is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Advocacy to lead our efforts in developing and implementing results-driven strategies that leverage partnerships, programmatic expertise, government relations, advocacy, and communications to maximize access and participation in federal nutrition programs and policies that increase economic mobility.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex programs, building and maintaining influential relationships at the federal, state, and local levels, and leading advocacy efforts on state and federal legislative priorities.

This role requires a strong understanding of hunger and poverty-related policies, as well as experience in developing program strategy for and running large programs that are national in scope and local in implementation through a range of partnerships.

The Senior Vice President will oversee all of the organization's advocacy efforts on state and federal legislative priorities, including identifying and executing advocacy opportunities, representing the organization in coalitions and on meetings on Capitol Hill and with state legislatures, and managing relationships and contracts with major national organizations representing state elected officials.

The Senior Vice President will also play a critical role in leading the organization's efforts to build the political will and to partner with our communications colleagues to create urgency around issues of food and income disparities in the national conversation.

This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC, and requires a consistent presence in Headquarters (2 days per week).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement results-driven strategies that leverage partnerships, programmatic expertise, government relations, advocacy, and communications to maximize access and participation in federal nutrition programs and policies that increase economic mobility.
  • Manage a combined multi-million-dollar budget and oversee all of the organization's advocacy efforts on state and federal legislative priorities.
  • Build and maintain influential relationships at the federal, state, and local levels, and lead advocacy efforts on state and federal legislative priorities.
  • Develop program strategy for and run large programs that are national in scope and local in implementation through a range of partnerships.
  • Partner with Communications and Resource Development and Growth teams to lead our movement building work, ensure excellent communications with a diverse range of stakeholders, and ensure we are raising the funds we need to achieve our mission.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required with 10-15 years' previous work experience, graduate degree preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of people management experience required with a focus on coaching and developing teams in support of a positive team culture.
  • Must possess supervisory experience of a large team and the capability to lead an integrated campaign requiring attention to political and grassroots relationships, communications, and fundraising in over a dozen key states.
  • Successful budget management experience with multi-million-dollar budgets.
  • Successful track record managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in developing program strategy for and running large programs that are national in scope and local in implementation through a range of partnerships.
  • In-depth policy expertise and experience with both hunger and poverty-related policies.
  • Experience in leading advocacy efforts.
  • Proven relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Successful track record of achieving results through persuasion and collaboration.
  • Highly effective within a fluid, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Keen judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Must be flexible and highly organized.
