Job Overview:

Delaware Innovation Space (DISI) is a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurial growth for scientific startups, supported by the University of Delaware, the State of Delaware, and DuPont. DISI is in search of a Facilities Coordinator who is dedicated to providing exceptional service and maintaining effective communication with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Under the guidance of DISI's leadership team, the Facilities Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of a 130,000 square foot scientific facility, ensuring optimal support for client research and business functions while collaborating closely with the Laboratory Coordinator. Key responsibilities encompass enhancing the operational efficiency and maintenance of the facility's infrastructure, managing facility upgrades, promoting best practices in training, safety, and facility uptime, and ensuring proactive communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the maintenance and operational efficiency of the building, engaging contractors and site personnel to ensure reliable operations.
  • Manage a complex laboratory and collaboration space, ensuring the quality and maintenance of lab facilities, safety protocols, and necessary supplies.
  • Oversee procurement of materials and coordination with third-party contractors to fulfill maintenance and service requests.
  • Communicate the status of facility work requests to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with clients regarding specific facility needs for equipment installation or relocation.
  • Develop training and safety documentation to ensure the safe operation of facility equipment.
  • Train and supervise clients on general lab safety and waste management practices.
  • Act as a resource for clients and staff in areas of expertise, providing necessary guidance.
  • Manage vendor relationships to facilitate third-party services.
  • Work closely with clients to swiftly address research requirements.
  • Coordinate general building activities and manage the flow of materials within the facility.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing complex building and laboratory systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in various technology laboratories with a foundational understanding of chemistry and biotechnology.
  • Experience in establishing diverse laboratory environments, including handling high-pressure gases and cryogens.
  • Familiarity with IT systems and network protocols.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety systems, protocols, and procedures.
  • Willingness to work in a multi-faceted environment, including daily facility operations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on task completion.
  • Flexible team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written communication, and analytical abilities.
  • Strong affinity for scientists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
  • Ability to translate client needs into actionable facility work orders efficiently.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the diverse needs and concerns of individuals from various backgrounds.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
